Description

Venetsanos Winery is located just above the Santorini port of Athinios in the Aegean Islands, with a splendid view towards the iconic caldera. Built by the Venetsanos family in 1947, it was the first industrialised winery on Santorini — and today operates as a wine museum celebrating that pioneering heritage.

Its most characteristic feature is a gravity-flow structural design conceived when electricity was scarce, using the natural slope of the caldera to move wine through production without pumps. Over the years, the family expanded from island sales to international export, particularly to Russia.

Museum Visit and Guided Tasting

  • Museum Tour: Explore the beautifully preserved museum space chronicling Santorini’s first industrial winery — its equipment, history, and the Venetsanos family’s pioneering role in Aegean viticulture.
  • Gravity-Flow Architecture: Learn how the winery’s unique cliff-side design above Athinios used gravity as its primary energy source — a remarkable feat of 1940s ingenuity.
  • Caldera Wine Tasting: Taste exceptional Santorini wines — Assyrtiko, Nykteri, and Vinsanto — against the backdrop of one of the world’s most dramatic volcanic landscapes.

Book your visit to Venetsanos Wine Museum in Aegean Islands and discover more wine tasting experiences on Santorini.
