In the quiet village of Melissia near Kozani, Macedonia, at 575m altitude, Belidis Vineyards cultivates its vines in the historic Vathylakkos area where viticulture has flourished for generations.
Phylloxera affected the regional vineyards in 1920; they were replanted by 1960. Belidis began planting its first 3 Ha in 2000, growing to more than 10 Ha by 2018, with further expansion planned.
During the population exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1923, the Belidis family arrived from Nichori in Istanbul, bringing sacred family icons and vines of the indigenous Voulgariko variety — now a cornerstone variety in the Kozani wine region.
