The psimeni (“baked”) raki is a liqueur with a flavoring of honey, cinnamon and cloves.
Since ancient times, the inhabitants of Amorgos island and the Cyclades made a traditional drink, called “psimeni raki”, to treat their guests and also the guests at their children’s weddings. Psimeni raki is sometimes offered as an appetizer and at other times as a digestive, but usually is offered at celebrations and gatherings.
Many people confuse it with rakomelo but psimeni raki, although it has similar ingredients, is a totally different drink because it also contains herbal extracts. It is a kind of local homemade alcoholic beverage.
