A collective of five families united by a passion for sustainable, eco-friendly tourism on Chios, organising hiking excursions along the island’s breathtaking trails and maintaining walking paths for safe, accessible experiences.
The afternoon circular hiking tour begins on the road leading to Anavatos — the legendary castle village of Chios, dramatically built atop a steep rocky hill. From there, a circular trail winds through a serene pine forest, where the air is filled with aromas of wild oregano, thyme, savoury, balm, and sage. In late spring, wild berries appear; in early summer, wild pistachio trees come into view, alongside breathtaking views over the rugged landscape of Anavatos.
Passing the small chapel of Old Taxiarchis — the only remaining structure of the old settlement — guests encounter the historic pistachio trees of Anavatos. Unlike Aegina pistachios, Chios pistachios are harvested unripe in June and preserved as a unique pistachio spoon sweet. After the hike, guests may enjoy pistachio spoon sweet at the village café.
The hike is led by an experienced local guide from the neighbouring village of Avgonyma. An optional traditional dinner (approx. €25) featuring authentic local Chios dishes is available — please inform in advance.
