Olive Harvest and Olive Curing, Kamarantho

kamarantho 25.jpg

Kamarantho is a model polyculture farm on Paros, Aegean Islands, and a living example of the farming practices that should guide agriculture on the island. The farm aims to demonstrate that a modern, environmentally beneficial agro-touristic business can make a positive contribution to sustainable farming in the Cyclades.

Cultivation at Kamarantho emulates a natural forest ecosystem — trees, bushes, grasses, tubers, and climbing plants coexist as they do in a forest, with variety and alternation creating biodiversity and resilience. Weed control relies on dense soil cover with plant residue, and the farm composts its own waste, collects rainwater, and handpicks herbs at the appropriate time.

In October, during the olive harvest season, visitors can join the harvest to learn olive picking using traditional harvesting methods, discover the process of producing extra virgin olive oil, and master the art of olive curing.
