At Kakkavos Estate near Messolonghi, Central Greece, the seasonal olive harvest is a grand agricultural event. The estate manages a 40-hectare farm — one of the largest in Greece — with 6,000 olive trees located 5 km outside Messolonghi, between the Acheloos and Evinos rivers and the Mesolonghi lagoon.
The estate has belonged to the family since 1870 and has recently been extended, reviving cultivations using modern scientific methods that respect the tradition of the olive tree. Four different varieties of olive trees produce Kalamata olives as well as extra virgin olive oil.
