The Karamitros family’s story is inseparably linked to Mesenikolas, Thessaly — a legacy of vine growing and winemaking stretching back generations. Their passion flourished after leaving Evrytania during the Ottoman era for the fertile lands of Mesenikolas.
In 1959, Lake Plastiras was created just 2.4 km from the Mesenikolas vineyards, creating a favourable microclimate at 700 meters altitude on the slopes of the Agrafa mountains. This region is home to Greece’s smallest PDO zone, encompassing Mesenikolas, Morfovouni, and Moschato.
The estate’s 110 hectares of privately owned vineyards and 250 hectares of partner vineyards are dry-farmed and hand-harvested. Greek varieties include Malagouzia, Assyrtiko, Moschato, Limniona, Roditis, and the rare Mavro Mesenikola — a red grape found nowhere else. International varieties include Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.
Mavro Mesenikola is our pride — with soft, velvety tannins and a complex, fruit-forward character, harvested from late September to early October with remarkable depth and richness.
