The Theotoky Estate covers 120 Ha in the Ropa Valley at the centre of Corfu, Ionian Islands, about 17 km from the town of Corfu. The estate — owned by the Theotoky family for many generations, whose father and grandfather both served as prime ministers of Greece — is almost entirely covered by pine and olive trees and is one of the few ecological parks left on the island.
Its main products are organic Theotoky wines and organic cold-pressed extra virgin olive oils. Facilities have been modernised with current technology while preserving the traditional appearance of the buildings and the estate library, which holds some 35,000 ancient and modern books, maps, engravings, and journals specialising in the history of the Byzantine Empire, the Balkans, and the Ionian Islands.
The Theotoky Estate Museum — born from a collection of old machinery — shows the evolution in winemaking from the beginning of the last century. Through pictures and equipment it documents feet-fouling of grapes, the old grape press, juice collection in wooden baskets, old barrels with special glass insulation, an antique weighing machine bearing the Theotoky name, and a unique bottle washer.
